SKYCITY support recognised by Variety
SKYCITY’s nearly 20 year partnership with Variety has been recognised with a Corporate Award for New Zealand presented at the Variety World Conference in Adelaide last week.
The award is presented to companies that show outstanding commitment to Variety and those who have, over many years, assisted Variety’s mission of improving the lives of disadvantaged Kiwi kids.
SKYCITY Group General Manager, Human Resources Claire Walker says the 18 year partnership has seen more than $3.6 million raised for Variety – The Children’s Charity through fundraising, grants and in-kind sponsorship.
“We are really proud of the partnership we have with Variety and the support we can provide to continue the important work they do in our communities.”
Variety – The Children’s Charity chief executive officer, Lorraine Taylor, says the charity was delighted to see SKYCITY recognised with the award last week.
“We are so proud to call SKYCITY a partner and are eternally grateful for all the assistance the group has provided over many years,” says Taylor.
“We are steadfast in our mission to improve the lives of disadvantaged Kiwi kids and without partners like SKYCITY, this just wouldn’t be possible.”
As well as the various SKYCITY Community Trust grants, support for campaigns and events, and sponsorship, SKYCITY runs two programmes that significantly contribute to fundraising.
SKYCITY hosts daily Variety Bingo in Hamilton, Adelaide and Auckland, with all the proceeds going to Variety. In Auckland this has been operating for nearly 10 years, with more than $1 million raised.
Another important event is the annual Variety of Chefs fundraising dinner at SKYCITY Auckland that has raised more than $400,000 over the past five years. Renowned chef Nic Watt of SKYCITY’s MASU (Auckland) and Madame Hanoi (Adelaide) is a driving force behind this event and was also recognised by Variety with a Variety International Presidential Citation.
