SKYCITY scoops hats at Cuisine Good Food Awards

SKYCITY has been awarded seven much-coveted hats for five of its signature restaurants, reinforcing Federal Street’s status as one of Auckland’s top dining precincts.

The Sugar Club and The Grill by Sean Connolly were both awarded two hats, while Depot, Gusto at the Grand and MASU by Nic Watt retained their one hat rating. Depot was also awarded Best Casual Dining Restaurant.

Danny Bucalo, General Food and Beverage SKYCITY Auckland said it was a proud moment for the restaurants, which are going from strength to strength.

“Last night’s awards were a delightful occasion and we are so proud of every team member behind each of these special restaurants. As a hospitality precinct we are so fortunate to have such talented and experienced chefs at the helm and I’d particularly like to commend Nic Watt, Al Brown, Peter Gordon and Sean Connolly for their outstanding contribution.”

The Sugar Club, led by Peter Gordon and Executive Chef Josh Barlow, was especially pleased with their win on the night, being awarded two hats for the first time.

The Sugar Club has an esteemed history under Peter Gordon’s leadership, and following the historic win Gordon was quick to commend the team effort behind the impressive win.

“2018 has been an eventful year for The Sugar Club welcoming Josh Barlow and Restaurant Manager Nick Gallagher. I’m so proud and thrilled to see the joint team effort recognised with two hats, it was a very special moment for our restaurant and is hugely positive for our guests!” says Gordon.

The awards, decided by a panel of 40 judges, including lead assessor Kerry Tyack, were announced at the Auckland Civic, in front of an audience New Zealand’s finest chefs and restaurateurs.
