SKYCITY Hamilton extends sponsorship in women’s cricket

SKYCITY Hamilton is continuing its support of its local community, extending its sponsorship activity to include a naming rights partnership with the new Northern Premier League women’s cricket competition, which was announced this week.

The new partnership adds to SKYCITY Hamilton’s sports sponsorship folio which includes the SKYCITY Hamilton Northern Spirit premier women’s cricket team, SKYCITY Hamilton Waikato Cup Day, the Chiefs rugby, the Waikato Rugby Union and Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic netball. SKYCITY has also had a long relationship with Northern Districts cricket, including as sponsor of the SKYCITY Northern Knights premier men’s cricket team from their 2011/12 season to 2015/16.

The newly announced SKYCITY Hamilton Northern Premier League aims to provide a superior level of competition for current Northern Districts players, as well as attract top female cricketing talent from outside the region to help bolster the strength of the competition.  The new league will see four non-regional teams competing across six Sundays during the cricket season. Talent will be spread across the four teams, to ensure all matches are competitive.

SKYCITY Hamilton General Manager, Michelle Baillie says SKYCITY is proud to support the new league, in turn growing talent and competitiveness in women’s cricket in the region.

“This new league is going to be great for women’s cricket and we’re really proud to be on board supporting the growth of talent in our region. Cricket is a very entertaining game and as Hamilton’s premier entertainment destination, we’re proud to be supporting our local teams.  We look forward to continuing our positive partnership with Northern Districts cricket,” she says.

Peter Roach, Chief Executive of Northern Districts Cricket says “SKYCITY Hamilton’s support is a crucial ingredient to the success of the new NPL.”

“SKYCITY Hamilton has been a long-term supporter of cricket and we are delighted that they have re-positioned their support to this terrific new competition.  Like SKYCITY Hamilton, this new competition aims to engage the public and provide premium entertainment for those involved.  It is terrific common ground for this partnership,” he says.
