Sky Tower shines in support of Mental Health Awareness Week

From Tuesday 24th September to Wednesday 25th September, the Sky Tower will be lit purple and green for Mental Health Awareness Week (MHAW), to show support to those with experience of mental illness, as well as their family and friends.

Endorsed by the World Federation for Mental Health, MHAW is marked in over 150 countries at different times of the year. This years week long theme encourages kiwis to explore their way to wellbeing.

Shaun Robinson, Chief Executive of the Mental Health Foundation is delighted to see the Sky Tower being lit up in support of MHAW.

“Shining a light on MHAW raises awareness of just how important our mental wellbeing is – I believe it’s a precious taonga that requires nurturing. It’s normal to have ups and downs in life, and that’s okay. What we want to see is people living in a society where everyone feels safe, supported and valued. Lighting up the Sky Tower will help encourage people to support those in need around them as well as take time to care for themselves,” says Mr Robinson.

The Sky Tower will be lit purple and green from sunset on Tuesday the 24th until sunrise on Thursday the 26th September.

The Sky Tower is New Zealand’s tallest man-made structure and the Southern Hemisphere’s tallest free-standing structure. Based in the heart of Auckland, the Sky Tower is one of New Zealand’s most recognisable landmarks.

SkyCity lights the Sky Tower for charities or community initiatives that we support financially, to mark national holidays, milestones or other celebrations or events, or as a symbol of respect or solidarity.
