Sky Tower pulses for World Heart Day

The Sky Tower will be the first global landmark to light up for World Heart Day and the Heart Foundation, raising awareness of the world’s number one killer, cardiovascular disease (CVD).

For tonight only, the top section of the Sky Tower will light in red and pulse to mimic a heartbeat, acknowledging the more than 10,000 Kiwi lives lost each year to CVD. There are currently 172,000 New Zealanders living with heart disease.

Other famous landmarks lighting up include New York’s Times Square, Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt and Table Mountain and Cape Wheel in South Africa, all united in raising awareness of cardiovascular disease.

The Sky Tower is the southern hemisphere’s tallest man-made structure based in the heart of Auckland, and is one of New Zealand’s most recognisable landmarks.

SKYCITY lights the Sky Tower for charities or community initiatives that we support financially, to mark national holidays, milestones or other celebrations or events, or as a symbol of respect or solidarity.
