Sky Tower open day raises $9000 for Youthline
More than 8000 New Zealanders welcomed the opportunity to visit the Sky Tower for just a gold coin donation on Friday 3 August, raising more than $9000 for Youthline.
Brad Burnett, General Manager of Hotels and Sky Tower reflected on the success of the day saying, “The Sky Tower really holds a special place in Auckland’s hearts and they came from far and wide to prove it and show their support for Youthline, an incredibly important charity in our community.”
Communications and Marketing Manager for Youthline, Briana Hill was excited about the opportunity for Youthline.
“It's inspiring to have such an iconic structure and organisation back us as a charity. We know that the single biggest barrier preventing young people from asking for help is embarrassment and we loved how visibly this event is let community know it is courageous to ask for help."
The initiative follows the success of the free day held one year earlier, where more than 7000 people attended the special event for the Sky Tower’s 20th birthday. This year the decision was made to mark the Sky Tower’s opening anniversary as an occasion to give back to the community. The Go for Gold event set a new record for visitation, with 8038 heading up the Tower.
The Sky Tower celebrated 21 years on Friday 3 August, standing tall in the heart of Auckland city as one of New Zealand’s most distinguished landmarks and tourist attractions since opening.
To add to the celebrations, the Sky Tower was lit as a flickering candle, in a glowing ember of yellow.
In a mark of longevity, the Sky Tower has been voted the number one activity on TripAdvisor for Auckland by visitors for the past five months.
