It's Christmas time at SKYCITY

Christmas sparkle and festive cheer has come to SKYCITY with our gorgeous SKYCITY Christmas Wonderland in the plaza, red and green Sky Tower lighting, spectacular Gingerbread and Christmas Village displays in the hotels, and entertainment throughout the month.

For the first time this year, a SKYCITY Christmas Wonderland has popped up at the base of the Sky Tower where anytime of day families can take photos in front of the giant Christmas Tree, play on the Carousel or play in Santa’s sleigh. It’s open every day, and lit every night at 7.30pm.

It is on Friday and Saturday nights that the Christmas spirit is in full swing with live entertainment featuring Christmas carollers, break dancing Santa’s and more at the base of the Sky Tower from 5.30pm – 7.30pm.

From 1-26 December, Auckland’s largest Christmas tree, the Sky Tower, will be shining bright in green and red to celebrate the festive season. The Main Observation Deck of the Sky Tower will be home to Santa Clause each weekend of December and the week before Christmas for those special family photos.  

Designed and created by SKYCITY’s talented pastry chefs, the Christmas displays in the Grand Hotel and SKYCITY Hotel lobbies were a labour of love for more than three months.

“This kind of project gives team the chance to learn from each other and experiment with both the creative and technical elements of putting something like this together. It’s a great opportunity to push boundaries and create something bigger and better with even more wow factor than the previous year,” says Lisa Crowe, Executive Pastry Chef, who has been leading the team.

The Grand Hotel’s Penguin Christmas Village was inspired by the movie Madagascar featuring skating, dancing and singing penguins, a band including a drum kit, piano and guitars, beautiful snowy igloos and more. SKYCITY Hotel’s more traditional alpine Gingerbread House features detailed designs and decorations, traditional windows and doors, and beautiful Christmas fairies. Both will be on display until after Christmas.
